"Zen Bridge" - Missouri Botanical Garden
I was walking the beautiful grounds of the Missouri Botanical Garden, when I came upon this zig-zagging bridge.
It was one of those moments, where I knew there was a good photo opportunity, but I couldn't figure out a way to compose it.
I walked across the bridge maybe 10 times, looking at it from different angles. I tried going wide, I tried going low, I tried shooting from a distance, yet it kept leaving me feel underwhelmed. Ever had this happen to you?
The only thing I can compare it to is writer's block. You know you have something to say, but you just can't find the words.
In these moments, I've learned to temporarily give up and come back to it later.
I went on about my afternoon, and came back to this bridge just before sunset.
As I was approaching the bridge, I had a telephoto zoom lens attached and took a peak through the viewfinder.
Immediately I knew this was the way I wanted to photography the bridge. The strong leading lines, the inky black shadows and the well lit path...it just all came together in that moment.
